Why you should read the Stone Lord Series?

The world of STONE LORD is one that will be both familiar and alien to us. The epic scope of the Arthurian legend is there, with most of the familiar characters and themes, but it is a world far different than in other Arthurian retellings: a world of both fear and elation, where man is at mercy of elements that he sees as powerful spirits-- often violent, with rites and rituals we might consider dark and disturbing such as drug or alcohol fuelled fertility rites, excarnation and handling of human remains, animal and occasionally even  human sacrifice.

Many a novel about Stonehenge has used the theme of 'nasty aquisitive' beaker  folk snatching the neolithic stone circles from the peaceble earlier folk.Certainly they did re-use and re-build some earlier monuments, but there is little evidence of armed conflict, and in fact, for all their martial appearance, there have been more finds of earlier neolithic battles (such as Crickley Hill)  than of bronze age ones.

Other somewhat woolly views are that they were matriarchal (possibly matrilineal and possibly in society women held functions that were different but considered as important as those of the men...like planting grain or grinding wheat- but this is very different be being 'ruled' by women) and that when they observed celestial/solar happenings they understood them as scientific (in fact they were undoubtedly regarded in a ritual way, filled with traditions that had to be kept to in order to ensure that the planets would continue to act in the predicted way; bad weather,a red sunset, snow etc on solstice or moon rise were doubtless regarded as omens.)

So be prepared in STONE LORD & MOON LORD for an era that has its own harsh beauty and honour, but that also has a strange, dark side even amongst its heroes!

  • A young man, born at the height of the Bronze Age, and at the time of Stonehenge, inherits the kingship at a time when invasion threatens the land.
  •  A sword out of stone shows his right, a wise counselor (The Merlin) guides his path. At his side stands the Breton Prince, An'Kelet (Lancelot) and Fynavir, an Irish Princess is his chosen bride.
  •  His reign is threatened by his jealous sister Morigau, who releases the boar, T'orc, to ravage the land.
  •  Ardhu and his faithful warriors gather at their round table - the circle of Stonehenge, to ride out against all foes ...
  • A youth born of a great taboo, comes from the North to claim his birthright.
  • A King grows weary, and the land with it ...
  • In the farthest West lies a fabled Cup of Gold said to restore the fertility of man and beast ...
  • The 'Prince of Twilight' succeeds but pays the price.
  • As the Dark Moon Rises, a shadow falls over the once mighty stone temple which brought union among men. Two must battle it to restore the glory of the Ancestors ...
